2007 Man of the Year
George Ballard
The variety of people who walk through the threshold of
411 Redondo Avenue is amazing. 26 years and countless
thousands of people from all over the globe have come to
sample the hospitality of Long Beach’s premier bar.
Actors, politicians, and even an occasional mass
murderer have bellied up to the bar along with students,
the beautiful people, long time companions and the
myriad in the community who call Long Beach home. The
Fox is truly a place to celebrate the times of our
lives. To this end, each year the Fox staff recognizes a
patron of the bar who has enriched our lives and made
our community a better place to live. Past winners of
our Man of the Year Award include educator Tom Walton,
attorney Rudi Cosio, and sports motivator and activist
Mark Chambers.
It gives great pleasure to all of the Fox staff to
nominate our 2007 Man of the Year - George Ballard. Also
known as the Commodore, George recently retired from his
position at Raytheon, where he mentored many young
people and helped them with their career paths. George
is a behind the scenes person who takes no credit for
the many wonderful things he has done for others. Every
charity event the Fox has sponsored over the past few
years has found the Commodore spending countless hours
preparing for the event, from menu planning and prep
work to execution and clean up. When the Fox wanted to
entertain the cast and crew of Musical Theatre West,
George availed us of a yacht and entertained the group
in classic style. An avid yachtsman, George takes great
pride in the restoration of his classic wooden 1950’s
Stephen’s.
Perhaps what endears this man to all of us so much is
something that is missing in so many people these days,
his sense of civility. In the years of our friendship, I
have never heard him speak an ill word against anyone
(almost to the point of irritation!) Always ready for a
good time, he is polite, caring, and responsible. When
times are tougher, you can not find a better friend who
will listen with compassion and share the wisdom of his
time on the planet with you. If you do not already know
him, you need to make it a point to say hello. We LOVE
and respect George Ballard and wish him all the best in
his retirement. A party will be held in his honor later
this month

UPCOMING EVENTS
FIELD TRIP 8/19

Street Fair
How can we ever top our award winning performance at
last year's end of summer ode to Silver Lake and the
Faultline? The Fox invasion was truly a Mission
Accomplished Party! We love a challenge and we will
succeed. The Fox will open Sunday morning for a
complimentary breakfast and cocktails at 9:30 AM
and the buses leave at 11 for the Street Fair. ($15
Admission is not included in the price) At 3 PM we
caravan to the Faultline for the wildest and wettest
party of the summer. The summer smash up is complete
with lifeguard towers equipped with studly daddies armed
with super soakers. Prepare to get wet and if you wear a
toupee or wig, make sure to wear extra glue or it will
get lost. Don't suffer the humiliation of your
Eva Gabor wig being tossed around the room by our merry
pranksters as happened to our own Lola last year.
Sign up with a bartender. The cost is $20 and includes
breakfast, transportation, and booze on the bus.
MANHUNT NITE
Thurs., August 30th
Our last Thursday of the month is devoted to online
cruisers. Join us from 9-12 AM and if you are a Manhunt
member, every other drink costs just $1. DVD's, spirits,
Manhunt and Colt promo giveaways through the night. This
event draws lots of new faces and a GO GO BOY stirs up
the mesh at 10 PM.
All Summer...Our two for Tuesday promo is the best
deal in town. Every other beer, well or call cost just
25 cents. Madness! ...Uber karaoke Sunday and Wednesday
nights...lots of new OC faces joining us for these
staples...
Sunday afternoons with Scotty are jammin with our
complimentary BBQ and ping pong tournament 5-8 PM.

of wine, a welcome cocktail, and appetizers are waiting
for you at our end of the month birthday bash to be held
